It’s happening! It’s happening!

Moving Day Eve – After a very long night of getting stuff done at the last minute, and cramming my essentials into a closet to evade packers, I set up camp with my packable blanket and camping sheet and pillowcase and settled in for my last night of sleep on a proper mattress in this house. I got very little sleep.
6 AM – I woke up, showered, did last minute panic organizing, then went on a quest for my traditional move day breakfast: bagels and shmear and coffee. On the way home, saw a bear in the intersection. Did not share my bagels.

8:18 AM – Packers arrive in a comically small van. It’s just the crew and the boxes. They start unloading boxes and get to work. They ask to put on music, and I am relieved to discover they like good music. It’s all 80s and 90s classics all the time.

9:27 AM – The real shipping container arrives and is deposited in the driveway. Movers continue to pack all of my things into boxes. My realtor stopped by to collect the lock box and talk closing logistics. I balanced my budget.

12:15 PM – Time for a lunch break, and all of my bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen are packed. I am amazed.

2:10 PM – Mostly everything is packed in boxes and they begin loading everything into the container.

4:20 PM – All contents of my house and shed are packed in boxes and loaded onto the shipping container. Paperwork signed. Crew drives off into the sunset.

4:22 PM – PANIC! The crew forgot to load my bike into the container. I called the dispatch who couldn’t reach them. They will come back in the morning.
5:00 PM – A friend stops by to shop for groceries and cleaning supplies. I lay in the middle of my living room / yoga studio floor. Shivasana.

DAY 2: 9:00 AM – Moving supervisor returns to get some final paperwork, load my bike into the truck, and drive off with the container full of nearly everything I own. It all fits in that box.
I’m struck with the impulse to shove the whole thing into the ocean and start over. The impulse passes. I return to my “day bed” to finish my blog post about moving, and prepare for the rest of my moving day adventures.

I’ll be enjoying the minimalist life here for a while until closing, house hunting, and eventually setting sail for Bellingham.
