Portland: The city of roses

I spent about 48 hours in the Portland/Vancouver area a few weeks ago.

I was lucky enough to have an afternoon free to explore before an all day meeting for work. I’ve been in the area several times, but this time I had no car, and was determined to spend lots of time outside.

Portland Japanese Garden + Rose Garden

My friend recommended the Japanese garden, and it was great! I really wanted to take advantage of the nice weather so it was perfect. The rose garden is also nearby so I checked that out as well.

I think my favorite part of Japanese gardens is the bonsai display. Some of the tiny gnarly trees are hundreds of years old and a few feet tall. So fascinating.

Around town

I had a perfectly charming day exploring local restaurants and cafes in the northwest neighborhood. I ended up there on a whim after picking the stepping stone for breakfast, and was delighted to find lots of other great things to enjoy in the area.

Perfect weather

In one day I took several Lyft rides and every driver told me that the day I was there was basically the beginning of nice weather in Portland. Not only did I enjoy it, but the plants were THRIVING. I was so jealous of the lush, green, huge plants everywhere just growing as if all of their needs were met. Must be nice.

I may have checked on housing prices in the area out of curiosity. Turns out Portland isn’t a secret and other people want to live there too.
