S01.E10: The one where Liz is a new homeowner

The Post-it’s are back !

Adventures in homeownership (and projects) abound!

I’ve been light on writing because, well, turns out buying and house and starting a new job in a new time zone takes some work and energy.

Since moving into my house it has been a nonstop tempest of projects started and stalled, repeat trips to Costco and Home Depot, hundreds of mosquito and no-see-em bites, punctuated by the ocasional “win” (actually completing a project on the same day or weekend I started it). I can count all of my wins so far on one hand:

Wins

Mailbox makeover

Spray paint and 2 hours.

Frosted glass shower door

Spray paint, lots of blue tape, and 2 hours.

Motion sensor light switch in the garage

It comes on when I open the door from my house into the attached garage!

Replace retractable clothesline

$12 and 10 minutes.

… that’s it.

Nothing else has been completed.

In progress

STARTED, but not complete:

Paint ceilings

Prep kitchen cabinets for paint

Unpack

Clean heaters

Repaint heating oil fuel tank

Hang garden hose

Replace carpeting with laminate

Find nail holes and spackle

Refinish dining room light fixture

Assess built in speakers.

Furnish guest room

Ok, back to work

… or to sleep.

Post-it: going away party

Part of the “stupid little post-it” series.

Ok, this one wasn’t so stupid, it was actually really fun. It’s only stupid because I abhor goodbyes and prefer to slink out the back door unnoticed and wait for someone to say “hey, has anyone seen Liz?”. Luckily my friends made me do it and showed up in full force to send me off properly.

Apart from supremely awesome friends, I’m most proud of this Pinterestable moment:

Eat your heart out Martha

My inner Martha Stewart came out in full force and I managed to make these bear cupcakes.

Overall I decided to commit to a bear theme, which was a roaring success.

I’m not sure what else to say, except it was great fun, and I felt very supported. It was nice to bring a few groups together to meet each other as well. I feel pretty lucky to have good friends here, and hope to find some keepers in Juneau.

Oh, and now I have a ton of food and drinks to consume in the next 2 weeks. If anyone needs booze or tortilla chips hit me up.

Not the fridge of a person who is leaving soon

Post-it: Pen purge

Part of the “stupid little Post-its” series, in which I give you a glimpse into some of the “stupid little things” I’m working on to prepare to move.

I’m addicted to buying pens. I’m also really particular about them, and my mind changes inevitably after purchasing a large quantity of my “favorite”. As such I have a large stockpile I’ve been reducing bit by bit every time I move. I’m down to one file box full of pens and markers (not counting paint pens, isolated for safety, or colored pencils).

I got rid of a few of the dead, tired, or undesirable ones. I always do a test page:

Stupid little thing.
