The demise of the sunflower

I came home to find the one sunflower that I planted that survived had toppled to the ground! I don’t suspect foul play since we had some intense winds, but it had a significant snap at the base of the stem. I righted it and gave it some support only to find it on the ground again the next day. Sadly my efforts were in vain and the good lord called our sister sunflower home before she was able to bloom. So close. Better luck next year?

Dreaming of beans

This year the one thing I wanted was beans. Green beans. Since the beginning of the season I have been sneaking out and shoving beans wherever there’s an open spot hoping for more beans. I have 3 little bean plants that are alive but not thriving, and most of the others just never popped up. The temps must finally be right because a lot of my beans are coming to life. I hope they can mature before the end of the season.

Cucumber recovery

I think the cucumbers have finally recovered from their near-death by heat wave. This is in-part because it is less hot, and in part because they are growing onto the shaded part of the fence.

Mid- summer harvest report! here’s how things are going so far this season.

First carrots this month! I pulled two shin kuroda carrots that were healthy and tasty! I grew them in my greenstalk and they did great. Their color is a slightly peachy orange which is fun. There are a few others that don’t look ready yet, but certainly not a high yield this year.

Still hoping for more beans.
