Recipes

Made this NYT Roasted Tomato and White Bean Stew with tomatoes, onion, and Swiss chard from my garden. If my herbs hadn’t died I would have had lots of fresh herbs in there too! So delicious and satisfying to put my harvest to good use.

Harvest

Bunch of chard
9 silver slicer cukes (3 distributed at happy hour)
Many cherry tomatoes
Many b. Peppers, first few from the yellow plant
Not a whole hill of beans.
2 zucchini, distributed to friends

Developments

Squash continues to struggle, some other summer crops are on their way out. peppers and cucumbers are still crushing it.

Fall Garden- the next generation

I’ve started a new generation of seedlings for my fall garden. I assume I’ll need to construct some protective measures as things cool down, but we’ll see what I’m able to get for the fall season.

Still lots of tomatoes, first harvest of the teeny currant tomatoes. Still not a lot of beans despite having 6 pole bean plants going.

Harvest

First biquinho peppers! So pretty, not too hot but tastes smoky.
Carrots sown 4/10, this guy was the lone survivor.
Beans
More cherry tomatoes
8 silver slicer cucumbers (2 donated to the composting instructor)
2 muncher cucumbers
1 butternut squash
1 zucchino

Developments

Squashfest- at least 4 of each, Honeynut and butternut, cooking on the vine
B. Peppers ripening
Someone eating my peas. Looks like Japanese beetle
Powdery mildew on some squash. Treated with fungicide. Fingers crossed.
Fall snow peas coming up.
Fall seeds- radish, carrot, beets.
Swiss chard still crushing it.

I was sick all week but my garden did not care.

Harvest

For some reason I’ve started weighing my fruit.

Muncher cucumbers (yard)
First 4 silver slicer cucumbers!
Exactly 7 beans- 3 Kentucky wonder and 4 big kahuna.
First winter squash harvest! (Honeynut and butternut)
So many cherry tomatoes.
A trusty zucchini.

Developments

Yellow squash leaves return
Romanesco squash starting to bud
Popcorn kernels
Bees like to hang out in the funnel. There are always a few chilling in there.
One tomato plant showing some issues on leaves, stem, and fruits.
Cute biquinho peppers
Pole beans working the poles
Bee appreciation.
