As we turn the corner towards fall, the sun loving plants start their final round of production.

The strip of direct sun I get in the peak of summer has been waning and now only hits just inside my fence, not even all the way to the ground. the tall plants will be ok. The short plants are going to have a bad time.

The smallest ear of corn

This is what it looks like when you plant popcorn in a spot that gets almost no sun.

The sunflower’s struggle

I planted two long-shot sunflowers in a spot that doesn’t get a lot of sun. Upon inspection the both fell over (likely in wind. I tied up on in attempts to support it but there was too much stem damage. The second one kept growing and produced one flower! Then was beheaded completely 3 days later.

I’m not sure what happened here. Critters? Someone who really hates cheerful flowers? Or lawn mowers gone rogue. We will never know.

Harvest

More tomatoes, peppers, chard, herbs, and a few more beans! Still very sad strawberries.
